About
Life After Defence (LAD) is a veteran-owned and operated organisation dedicated to supporting current and former members of the Australian Defence Force, as well as their families.
We founded LAD to help bridge the gap in accessing entitlements a gap often caused by the lack of clear information provided during discharge. Many veterans discover too late that the policies, processes, and support options available to them are complex, unclear, or simply not well-communicated.
Our mission is simple: to guide servicemen and women through the entitlements process as quickly and smoothly as possible. We work to ensure they receive what they are rightfully entitled to, while helping them move forward into the next chapter of their lives with confidence, positivity, and the support they deserve.
Department Of Veteran Affairs
We deal with initial lability claim, Permanent impairment, Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI) claims. Household services, education grants for members with children in school or apprenticeships. Other services that come with having a white card, gold card or companion card.
Commonwealth Super Corporation
We examine your discharge to see if you are eligible to overturn the decision into a medical discharge through the retrospective discharge process. We help to look at what type of pension and category you are in to see if there is evidence to move from a lower category to a higher category. We investigate if our members are eligible for a Disability Superannuation Benefit (DSB) to be added to their pension to lower the taxable amount taken by the ATO and more.
RSL, DHOAS & Additional Services
We help members who want to upskill to find scholarship through the RSL’s and the sub-branches. We work alongside Homefront who find qualified and experienced service providers to help members with domestic duties when their injuries prevent them from doing so. We provide support for members dealing with mental health and physical injuries and recommend DVA approved organisations and courses for support. We check if you qualify for DHOAS and help acquire your certificates.
Qualifications and fees
Our head advocate holds a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, providing a deep understanding of DVA legislation, policies, procedures, and Statements of Principles. Trained through the DVA ATDP program and mentored by experienced RSL advocates, he continues to develop his skills to deliver the highest standard of representation for veterans.
Our team also includes a Registered Nurse, who reviews medical files and reports to accurately link injuries and conditions to service, strengthening each claim we prepare.
We operate with no upfront fees and charge only 5% upon securing a permanent impairment or retrospective decision.

Our process involves a referral and administrative review, a detailed doctor's consultation with experienced GPs located throughout Australia, a DVA report submission, and communication of the outcome to the veteran.

If you are unable to carry out household tasks such as cleaning or gardening because of one or more of your accepted conditions, you may be eligible to receive DVA-funded household services.
Ben from GC Services Group will manage all your household service needs — including scheduling, delivery, and payment arrangements with DVA.

Do you have DVA accepted conditions, if so, you are eligible for treatment. Steven Bayukhin, an experienced Exercise Physiologist from Bayukhin Allied Health, based in Bundall on the Gold Coast (QLD). Steven works closely with veterans and specialises in helping former ADF members improve function, mobility, and overall performance—even while managing service-related injuries.

Rehab Insight
Do you have DVA accepted conditions, if so, you are eligible for treatment. Zak Kharoofa, is a Senior Exercise Physiologist from Rehab Insight. Zak works with veterans across both North and South Brisbane and has a strong background in helping former ADF members regain optimal function and performance, even while managing service-related injuries.

Many veterans use their compensation to buy a property to live in or to invest in real estate. As an ADF member, you are entitled to DHOAS and other benefits, but most banks and brokers may not be familiar with these entitlements and may struggle to find the best options for you.
